THE Provincial Government is working on securing sufficient, stable and affordable power supply for Negros Occidental in the next few years, said lawyer Jose Maria Valencia, chief of staff of Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.
Valencia said this came after a number of investors are coming to the province and raised questions regarding the power situation of the region.
Valencia said that almost every week potential investors visit the province. They believe there is a great potential for the province to grow in terms of agriculture, Valencia said.
Last Monday, a group of Italian investors visited the province and looked for potential businesses that they could put up, according to Valencia.
Like other potential investors who came to the province, the Italian investors also asked about the availability and reliability of the power supply in the province.
Valencia admitted Negros Occidental has no sufficient power sources within Negros Island. The province is dependent on the excess power from Cebu and Panay Islands. However, the Capitol has been exerting efforts to bring in serious investors in the power generation sector, he pointed out.
Investors of hydropower plants are also seriously considering power generation projects in the province, he added.
A power plant within the province will greatly help us achieve economic development, Valencia said. (Teresa Ellera-Dulla)
