DAVAO City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte can be bribed for a favorable decision on any business plan, but his price is US$400 billion.
This was how the vice mayor deflected rumors being fanned by his detractors that his and the City Council's decision on the coal-fired power plant being proposed by the AboitizPower Corp. has already been "bought".
AboitizPower intends to build a coal-fired power plant in Binugao, Toril, a plan that is being objected to by environmentalist groups.
Speaking during the city-sponsored television program, Duterte chided several environmental groups for their constant and endless accusations against him.
"Sige magpapalit ko, tutal dili man pud ko muboto, gawas lang kung mag tie, imposible man pud na na mag-tie kay 21 man ang kailangan na boto (Then if that's the case, I can be bought, anyway, the vice mayor doesn't have to vote, except when there's a tie to break, which is impossible)," Duterte said.
Duterte then dared his detractors on P25-billion proposed coal-fired power plant to produce substantial evidence to support their claims and allegations.
The vice mayor has been very vocal in his approval to the proposed 300 megawatt coal-fired plant, which he said will be a beneficial project for the city and the entire Mindanao.
He said opposing groups are not in the authority to say what is wrong or right just because they are doctors or experts in several fields. He added that there are certain things that need to be sacrificed for the environment.
Duterte, however, said for as long as there are mitigating measures to ensure that the proposed coal-fired power plant's effects on the environment, there is no room for another debate.
