The Board of Investments approved the application of Hedcor Sibulan Inc. for incentives to pursue the P1.165-billion Tudaya 1 Hydroelectric Power Plant in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
The project will provide an additional 6.6 megawatts to the current supply of power in Mindanao using the waters of the Sibulan and Baroring river systems to generate power.
The BoI said the project conformed with the specific guidelines of the 2012 Investment Priorities Plan and the Renewable Energy Act agreed between the board and the Energy Department.
Hedcor, a unit of Aboitiz Power Corp., will employ 23 personnel once the project’s commercial operation begins in September 2014.
Hedcor will sell the power output to Davao Light and Power Co. Inc., an electric distribution utility whose franchise covers the entire Davao City and Panabo City Carmen, Dujali and Sto. Tomas towns in Davao del Norte.
The project is expected to augment the deficient power supply in region.
Tudaya 1 is the third hydro project of Hedcor after Sibulan Plant A and Plant B with a combined capacity of 42.5 MW.
The plants as renewable power projects contribute substantially toward reducing carbon emissions in the area.
Renewable energy has evolved into a major contributor to the country’s primary energy supply. The national supply of renewable energy reached 40.7 million tons of oil equivalent in 2010. source
