THE town mayor of Impasug-ong and the village chief of Guihean, both in Bukidnon, expressed their support for the proposed Hedcor-built hydropower project in their areas.
Both officials called on local residents to welcome the hydro investor in their community. This developed during the official signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the municipality, barangays and the AboitizPower subsidiary, Hedcor Bukidnon over the project.
Addressing his constituents, Mayor Mario Okinlay said, "Hedcor needs the full support of the community, we have to ensure the safety of our investors against any unfavorable incident. The project will help ease the power crisis in Mindanao. Blackouts can be taken as an indication of the critical power shortage."
Okinlay added that the community needs Hedcor's additional capacity to reduce the brownouts they currently experience.
Hedcor intends to build two cascading plants that will harness power from the Amusig, Guihean and Tanaon rivers. The Manolo Fortich Hydro 1 will have a capacity of 35.2 megawatts (MW) and the Manolo Fortich Hydro 2 will generate 16.4 MW. Both plants combined can produce a total of almost 300 million kilowatt per hour (kWh) a year.
Other parties to the MOA signing were community leaders from barangays Guilang-Guilang, Santiago, Dalirig and Maluco.
Hedcor's vice president for Business Development Boy Jabonillo said, "In our 35 years in the business, we have continued to bring inclusive growth to our host communities by helping them to grow through sustainable social development programs."
Hedcor is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AboitizPower with a generating capacity of 47 MW for Mindanao. (PR) source
