CONSUMERS of the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) will still have to contend with the six to eight-hour daily rotational blackout.
This as the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has yet to approve the Power Sharing Agreement (PSA) entered into by Zamcelco and the Mapalad Power Corporation (MPC).
Zamcelco’s newly-elected president Omar Sahi revealed that they are still waiting the approval from the ERC on the PSA between Zamcelco and the MPC for the sale of 18 megawatts power supply.
The PSA with MPC was signed last March 8 by Sahi's predecessor, Elbert Atilano, on behalf of Zamcelco.
Atilano resigned as Zamcelco president since he is running for a council seat in the first district under the banner of the Liberal Party (LP).
The approval of the PSA will shorten the blackout to two to three hours daily, according to Atilano.
However, the ERC needs to issue a provisional authority in order for the MPC to start the delivery of the 18 MW supply to Zamcelco, Atilano added.
Sahi urged the local government officials "to assist us in following up with the ERC for the prompt approval of the PSA."
Sahi, meanwhile, said they are negotiating with other firms to purchase additional supply of electricity to further shorten if not eliminate blackout in the city.
Among the firm they are negotiating is the Bukidnon-based Crystal Sugar Power Corporation for the purchase at least three to five MW, Sahi said. (Bong Garcia) source
