POWER firms in the southern part of Iloilo City spearheaded Thursday the kick-off ceremony of the nationwide campaign against malnutrition at Ticud Elementary School.
The firms' officials, along with representatives from the City Government, Department of Health, Department of Education, school principals and beneficiaries, planted vegetables in nearby barangays and schools.
The program is in celebration of July Nutrition Month pioneered by Global Business Power Corp. (GBPC) and its Iloilo City-based subsidiaries Panay Energy Development Corp.(PEDC) and Panay Power Corp. (PPC) in partnership with East-West Seek Foundation in launching "Oh My Gulay" (OMG).
Vegetable produce from the planted seeds will benefit schools and barangays in their supplemental feeding programs for the children.
The foundation will also teach parents on proper food preparation using nutritious food.
Earlier, the National Nutrition Council identified a significant number of malnourished children in Iloilo city and province. (Lydia C. Pendon) source
