The Energy Department issued a certificate allowing ATN Philippines Solar Energy Group Inc. to proceed with the construction of a 30-megawatt solar project in Rodriguez, Rizal.
It is the second solar project to be awarded a certificate from the government.
Renewable Energy Management Bureau director Mario Marasigan said the declaration of commerciality was issued to ATN Philippines Solar, a joint venture between ATN Holdings Inc. and Transpacific Boardbrand Group International Inc.
Marasigan hinted that another solar project would receive a certificate after the department approved Philippine Solar Farm-Leyte Inc.’s 30 MW project in Ormoc, Leyte.
The approval will allow the two solar developers to avail of the P9.68 per kilowatthour feed-in tariff, once their projects become operational.
The declaration of commerciality refers to a written declaration from the developer, confirmed by the Energy Secretary, stating that the project is commercially feasible.
Philippine Solar Farm plans to construct the plant on 44-hectare property in Barangay Dolores that will cost around P2.9 billion. The company is 40 percent owned by DS Steel Co. Ltd. of Korea and 60 percent by local investors. source
