Steady power at Asean summit venues—NGCP

By Lenie Lectura -

THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) reported over the weekend there were no transmission-related power interruptions at Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit venues.
“The NGCP reports it did not encounter major transmission-related incidents, which disrupted the supply of power to the 31st Asean Summit venues,” the grid operator said. The Asean summit and its related summits were held from November 10 to 14.
NGCP also said it deactivated its 24-hour Overall Command Center (OCmC) last week.
“After operating round the clock beginning November 10, 2017, the NGCP is pleased to report that the grid maintained its optimum working condition,” the company said. “[The] NGCP assures the public that it is ready to activate its OCmC during similar critical events in the future.”
NGCP is a Filipino-led, privately owned company in charge of operating, maintaining and developing the country’s power grid, led by majority shareholders Henry Sy Jr. and Robert Coyiuto Jr. It is 40-percent owned by State Grid Corp. of China which is the largest state-owned electric utilities company in the world. It transmits and distributes power in China.
Since it took over the operations and maintenance of the country’s power transmission network in 2009, the NGCP has introduced major physical and technological upgrades to aging state-owned lines and facilities.
