ABOITIZ Power
Corp. has created a new unit that will cater to the solar-rooftop business.
“AboitizPower is set to
enter the rooftop solar space through a new business unit aimed at further
expanding the company’s already significant renewable-energy portfolio under
its Cleanergy brand,” the company said on Monday.
The new company, called
Aboitiz Power Distributed Energy Inc. (Apdei), is already looking at completing
several key projects in Luzon and the Visayas this year, with a target to
integrate it closely with the group’s existing open access customers.
AboitizPower first
entered the solar-power market in 2016 with its 69-megawatt (MW) San Carlos Sun
(Sacasun) project in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. To date, AboitizPower
has 1,272 MW of net sellable capacity, together with its partners, through its
Cleanergy brand.
“We have been in the
power industry for more than 80 years. This gives us a wealth of knowledge and
technical capability that we can share to our customers who want to go into
solar,” Aboitiz Power President Antonio Moraza said.
Apdei General Manager
Jose Rafael M. Mendoza said their main differentiator is their experience in
the power industry.
“The positive response
from customers affirms our view that distributed energy technology, such as
rooftop solar, complements existing products and services that the AboitizPower
group provides,” he said. AboitizPower claims to have a wide portfolio of
renewable-energy plants under Cleanergy, including its geothermal, run-of-river
hydro and large hydropower facilities all over the country, helping energize economic
opportunities in its host communities while further advancing its business
portfolio.
The company is pushing
for a balanced mix strategy—maximizing Cleanergy while taking advantage of the
reliability and cost-efficiency of thermal power plants.
