Energy (DOE) has received a total of 365 Energy Projects of National
Significance (EPNS) applications as of last month.
The bulk of the
applications, or 181, were oil and gas power projects. Renewable-energy (RE)
projects with EPNS applications reached 83. EPNS applications for transmission
projects stood at 69; coal, 20; and hybrid power projects at 12.
Of the 365 EPNS
applications, 294 were accepted while 71 did not comply with the necessary
requirements.
Of the 294 accepted
applications, 137 were certified as EPNS while 157 applications are still under
evaluation.
The latest in the DOE’s
EPNS list are the 20-megawatt (MW) Sablan 1 hydroelectric power project of
Hedcor Benguet Inc., a unit of Aboitiz Power Corp.
The hydropower project
in Sablan, Benguet province, is currently in its predevelopment phase.
The DOE also issued
EPNS certificate to the 9.7-MW Mindoro Harvest Energy Power Block 1 on June 21.
The power project is being undertaken by Mindoro Harvest Energy Co. Inc.
The issuance of EPNS
certificates are stipulated under Executive Order (EO) 30, which states that
concerned government agencies shall act upon applications for permits not
exceeding within a 30-day period. If no decision is made within the specified
processing time frame, the application is deemed approved by the concerned
