Hedcor Inc., a unit of Aboitiz Power Corp., recently broke ground for the 14-megawatt Sabangan hydropower project in Mountain Province.
The project in Sabangan town is Aboitiz Power’s first hydropower plant in the province, after building similar projects in Benguet, Ifugao and Ilocos Sur.
Hedcor said the run-of-river power plant would be completed by 2015.
Hedcor president Rene Ronquillo said in a statement aside from the clean, renewable energy that would be produced by the power plant, it would also bring substantial benefits to the local community.
“We are here to stay and grow with the community. Hedcor is committed not only in maintaining its leadership in the field of run-of-river hydropower, but also to improving the lives of the residents of our host communities,” Ronquillo said.
The Sabangan hydropower plant is a run-of-river system that will harness energy from the Chico River.

It will have a total installed capacity of 14 MW, that is expected to generate a total of 55 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
