Mindanao gets additional 50 MW

 (The Philippine Star)

DAVAO CITY , Philippines  – The AboitizPower subsidiary Therma Marine has completed on schedule the preventive maintenance of a generator of one of its power barges, bringing back 50 megawatts (MW) to the Mindanao grid just as classes started this month.
The preventive maintenance service of one of two generators of the Therma Marine power barge in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte was moved a week earlier to May 25 to 28, according to chief operating officer Jovy Batiquin.
“The change in schedule… allowed Therma Marine to be online just when classes open and the demand for power goes up,” Batiquin said.
Therma Marine’s peaking power plants in Nasipit and Maco, Compostela Valley have a combined capacity of 200 MW.
The barges serve 23 electric cooperatives and distribution utilities, helping them cushion the debilitating effects of the Mindanao power crisis.
Therma Marine has been running on extended hours in response to the demand for power from the Mindanao grid.   source
