HEDCOR Inc., the hydropower arm of Aboitiz Power Corp., said on Wednesday it broke ground for the 14-megawatt (MW) Sabangan hydropower project in the Mountain Province.
The Sabangan hydropower plant uses a run-of-river system that will harness energy from the Chico River and is expected to generate an annual total of 55 million kilowatt-hours of Cleanergy, AboitizPower’s brand for clean and renewable energy.
As host to Hedcor’s newest plant, the Mountain Province and its municipality, Sabangan, stand to receive a host of economic benefits, including at least P15 million in government and real-property taxes, as well as community shares.
The host community will benefit from AboitizPower’s corporate social responsibility programs focusing on environment, education and enterprise development. Job opportunities will also be open to the locals during the construction phase and hiring of the locals will be prioritized when the plant becomes operational.
Members of the Tinmakudo ancestral domain and the host barangays will likewise have a share in the power plant’s generation output, which is on top of other financial benefits that the community will receive under the government mandated Energy Regulation 1-94, which they can use to fund electrification, development and livelihood, and reforestation, watershed management, health and environmental-enhancement projects.
Hedcor, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of AboitizPower and is the leading developer and operator of run-of-river hydropower plants in the country. The company owns 19 hydropower plants across Benguet, Ilocos Sur and Davao that generate a total of 155 MW. Hedcor is currently constructing two plants in Davao del Sur.   source
