Explain new power rate hike, Braga tells DLPC

Sunstar Davao
A DAVAO City councilor wants explanation for the newly implemented P0.33 per kilowatt per hour (kwh) power rate increase imposed by the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC).
Pilar Braga, chairman of the City Council committee on energy, communication and transportation, said DLPC must always explain every time they increase their power rate.
"I stood up many times before, either denouncing or questioning energy price hike... I want these companies involved to explain to the people, to us, nganung pirmi nalang man naga taas singil sa kuryente (why is there successive price increase in electricity)," Braga said during Friday's forum of the Power Dabaw -- a group of power consumers in Davao City composed of barangay officials, councilors, various homeowner's association and community and people's organization.
Braga said she is not against price increase as long as the public is properly informed as to why or how much the proposed increase would be.
"I don't like to wake up in the morning surprised that the power price has already increased," Braga said in the vernacular.
"We must thank DLPC for the power and services that they have supplied to us for the past years. We all know that our life is so much dependent on electricity. Many people from all walks of life are dependent in electricity," she said.
The people must know facts about power or anything about it in order to relate and not always condemn any increase done, she added. (JOP)
