Mayor prefers energy from waste

Sunstar Davao
A WASTE-to-energy power plant is more preferable than the controversial coal-fired plant, a top city official said.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said the waste-to-energy power plant is expensive that is why there are no investors in sight.
The mayor said that although she is "lukewarm" to the proposed coal-fire plant, her stand may not have much weight since the Aboitiz company has been granted by the National Government to distribute and generate power.
She said she does not know how she intends to act on the proposal since nothing bars Aboitiz from putting up such facility here.
The mayor earlier said she would respect a decision from the greater majority even as she said she's not enthusiastic on a coal-fired plant.
Duterte also said she is aware that having a big energy plant would allow energy consumers to enjoy lower power rate.
But, she added a coal plant would have a drawback on the environment. (JCZ)
