MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon (MindaNews/27 November) — Line personnel from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) worked overnight to investigate and make subsequent repairs on the transmission lines as the greater part of Bukidnon plunged into darkness at 6:57 p.m. Friday.
Beth Ladaga, NGCP Information Officer, told Mindanews that the cause of the 15-hour power interruption was the defective “insulator flashover” in one of the transmission lines between Lumbo, Valencia City and the Bukidnon Sugar Corporation in Quezon town.
“NGCP personnel worked overnight on an insulator flashover at structure 33 along Busco-Lumbo 69-kv line. Maramag -Aglayan 69 KV line fully energized at 9:56 am thereby restoring power to all affected areas,” said Ladaga in a text message at around 10 a.m. Saturday.
Affected by the power interruption were the service area of the Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative (Buseco) and a portion of the service area of the First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative (Fibeco). Power, however, was restored in the Fibeco areas as of 9:14 p.m. Friday while the rest of the Buseco areas got their power back at 9:56 a.m. Saturday or 15 hours after the lines were tripped.
Buseco serves Malaybalay, a portion of Valencia City and the nine northern Bukidnon towns, while Fibeco serves Valencia and 11 southern towns from Maramag down to Kitaotao at the boundary of Davao City, Damulog near the boundary of North Cotabato and San Fernando at the border of Davao del Norte, and Wao, Lanao del Sur.
