MANILA, Philippines—Italian investors are planning to invest in wind-power projects in Oriental Mindoro, which were estimated to have over 200 megawatts of various renewable energy potential.
Representative Rodolfo Valencia of the 1st district of Oriental Mindoro identified one of these investors as Brulli Energia which, he said, had already started conducting studies on prospective wind-power sites in the province.
The lawmaker, who is a member of the House energy committee, added that the company was also nearing financing closure for the wind project—a clear indication that the Italian power firm was really keen on pursuing the power project.
Valencia, however, refused to disclose additional project details in view of the various negotiations being done by the investors involved.
Brulli Energia is a private company that holds a stake in the Italian electric transmission grid.
The Italian energy firm had also expanded its interests in green energy, to include the design and constructionof power production plants from renewable sources, particularly for hydropower and wind farms.
Aside from Brulli Energia, Valencia said Philippine Hybrid Energy Systems Inc. (Phesi) also planned toinvest in wind-power projects in the province.
Phesi is the local subsidiary of the US-based BreezElectric which, as early as 2004, had been scouting potential wind sites in the country.
In 2004 the Department of Energy signed pre-commercial contracts with Phesi for four wind sites in Marinduque; Baleno, Masbate; Abra de Ilog, Oriental Mindoro, and Tablas, Romblon.—Amy R. Remo
