SUAL, Pangasinan, Philippines – TeaM Energy’s 1,218-megawatt (MW) power facility in this town has been named Independent Power Producer (IPP) of the Year at the 2010 Asian Power Awards given by the prestigious Singapore-based Asian Power Magazine.
The prestigious award was received by Takao Onuki, executive vice president-finance, Ruben Licerio, vice president for operations and station manager of Sual power station, together with Nicanor Ramos Jr., manager for technical training, on Nov. 3 in Singapore.
“This is a testament not only to the world-class workforce we have at the Sual power station, but also to what Filipinos can achieve at the global level,” said Federico E. Puno, president and chief executive officer of TeaM Energy.
“We are truly humbled as we share this award to all Filipinos,” he added.
Puno said the new accolade will further inspire the company to run its power plants with the “most stringent of global standards” and to deliver on its commitment to provide reliable and cost effective energy to help address the country’s development needs.
“The men and women of the Sual power station best represent what Filipinos have to offer in terms of a highly-skilled and technical work-force. We at TeaM Energy are very proud of this,” he added.
TeaM Energy is a partnership between noted Japanese firms Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Marubeni Corp. It is one of the largest IPPs in the country with over 2,000 MW of generating capacity.
It also operates the 735-MW clean-coal facility in Pagbilao, Quezon and has a 20-percent stake in the 1,200-MW natural gas-fired plant in Ilijan, Batangas.

Asian Power Magazine gives the award to IPPs with the best practices in the continent’s power industry.
Taken into consideration were a variety of factors including reliability, efficiency, occupational health and safety, environmental performance and corporate social responsibility, among others.
