Maibarara Geothermal Inc. (MGI) has signed partnership on Friday with Cendaur Engineering, a Philippine company with extensive experience in construction of switchyard, for its 20-MW geothermal power project in Santo Tomas, Batangas.
Under the contract, Cendaur Engineering will undertake the design delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning of the 115kV switchyard of the aforementioned project. Cendaur Engineering will complete the switchyard facility for MGI by June 30, 2013.
The project is operated by MGI, a joint venture owned by PetroEnergy Resources Corp.’s subsidiary PetroGreen Energy Corp. (65 percent), Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp. (25 percent), and PNOC-Renewables Corp. (10 percent).
Funding for the project comes partly from a P2.4-billion loan facility extended to MGI by Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. and the Bank of the Philippine Islands. Fuji Electric of Japan, supplier of the Maibarara plant’s major equipment, on the other hand, is already close to completing the manufacture of the turbine, generator, condenser and related machineries for the said project.
Fuji Electric is set to ship the major plant equipment to the Philippines from its Yokohama factory in March 2013. This will bring to a close the 15-month manufacturing and delivery commitment of Fuji Electric to the project.
After delivery in April, a 3-month installation of the power station’s equipment components will then follow.
MGI President F.G Delfin Jr. said “as we near the construction end move towards plant testing, MGI will work closely with our partners and contractors to have all the facilities, systems and permits for a successful testing of the first geothermal power facility in Luzon in 16 years and the first under the current Aquino administration.”
Maibarara is the first renewable energy project under the 2008 Renewable Energy Law. source
