MANILA -- The search and rescue operations for the missing Semirara miners in Antique province are being hampered by rains and landslide incidents, police said Monday.
Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., Western Visayas police regional director, said the operations for the buried miners are being hampered due to two landslides at the Panian pit at Barangay Semirara, Caluya town.
"Retrieval operation for the meantime is temporarily suspended due to rainy weather," said Cruz.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the landslide incident that trapped 13 miners occurred around 11:54 p.m. of February 13, at the open mining pit at the Semirara Coal and Mining Corporation.
The agency said three were initially rescued identified as Marjun Catoto, 23; Adrian Climar, 29; and Leonardo Sojor, 40.
Five were confirmed dead identified as Abner Lim, 39; Joven Hocate, 31; George Bragat, 30; Efren Equiza, 28; and Anthony Siblet, 26.
Still missing are Leovigildo Porras, 50; Jan Riel Planca, 28; Randy Tamparong, 30; Richard Padernilla, 26; and Junjie Gomez, 19, the NDRRMC said. (Emmanuel Louis Bacani/Sunnex) source
