BREAKING NEWS ( Updated as of 02:15:00 PM )ILOILO CITY -- A landslide occurred early Thursday in a coal mine on Semirara Island, in Antique province, killing three miners and several injured.
Based on initial reports from Antique provincial police director Marloe L. Marfil, the landslide happened 12:50 a.m. at the Pani-an pit of Semirara Coal & Mining Corp. in Barangay Semirara, Caluya town.
Three bodies have been recovered from the Semirara coal mine, the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported.
Rescue efforts were ongoing as of noon today for seven more miners trapped inside the Pani-an pit of the Semirara coal mine in Barangay Semirara, Caluya town, Antique after a landslide occurred shortly after midnight.
Antique provincial police director Marloe L. Marfil said rescuers were using heavy equipment owned by Semirara Coal & Mining Corp. to locate and rescue the miners.
The landslide site is located about 200 feet below sea level, he said. Three miners have been rescued this morning and are undergoing treatment in hospitals. -- Francis Allan L. Angelo source
