THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has asked for the green light from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for it to implement the P3.3-billion Western Luzon 500-kilovolt (kV) backbone project.
The NGCP wanted the ERC to issue a provisional authority for stage 1 of the project, the Castillejos-Hermosa 500-kV transmission line.
The Castillejos-Hermosa 500-kV transmission line is the first stage of the Western Luzon 500-kV backbone that aims to develop a 500-kV western corridor.
The Castillejos-Hermosa line will emanate from NGCP’s Hermosa sub-station. It will cross national roads, the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, villages and the existing Hermosa-Olongapo 230-kV line until it reaches the site of the proposed Castillejos substation.
The project will boost the connection of Redondo Peninsula Energy’s 600-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant at the Subic Bay Freeport.
Once the project is completed, it will be connected to Redondo Peninsula Energy’s Castillejos transmission line to effect the interconnection of the 600- MW power plant due for commercial operation by 2016.
“Upon implementation of the project, this will facilitate the direct delivery of power capacity to the Hermosa substation. Thus, the Hanjin- to-Hermosa corridor will no longer be congested,” the NGCP said.   source
