System operator
National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has linked up with the
Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTCRB) to intensify its
campaign against pilferage and right-of-way (ROW) violations.
This will be a new form
of media that the transmission firm has tapped so it can reach out to wider
constituency in informing the Filipino public on the importance of keeping the
country’s power transmission highway safe and secure.
The deal was cemented
through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by NGCP Board Director and
Chief Administrative Officer Anthony L. Almeda and MTRCB Chairman Eugenio H.
Villareal.
In a statement to the
media, NGCP noted that it joined forces with the MTRCB “to affirm partnership
in disseminating the grid operator’s advocacy on protecting the country’s
transmission facilities.”
MTRCB’s help was
tapped, NGCP said, so they can “reach wider audiences by showing their safety
and anti-pilferage public service videos in movie theaters.”
The transmission firm
described the tie-up “as a strategic cooperation between the public and private
sector (to) further advance the advocacies of NGCP.”
Such campaign, it
noted, is aimed at “spreading awareness on transmission line safety,
anti-pilferage and right-of-way issues.”
NGCP had been on
turbulent times last year when its facilities had been the target of series of
bombings; and a number of uncooperative landowners made it difficult for it to
gain access to their transmission assets.
According to NGCP, its
new agency-partner MTRCB is “more than willing to help by making available
relevant expert information and other resources, to enable NGCP to mobilize the
dissemination of its line safety campaign material to local theater operators.”
In the MOU, both
parties committed to protect the welfare of vulnerable sectors, including
“safety, anti-pilferage and right-of-way of the nationwide transmission
assets.”
