The National Grid Corporation of the
Philippines (NGCP) annnounced Monday that Luzon was placed again on yellow
alert due to low power reserve from generating plant.
NGCP said the alert status was
raised from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The available capacity is approximately 9,591
megawatts (MW) while the peak demand is at 9,073 MW.
Operations in power plants such as
Ilijan Block B, Quezon Power (Philippines, Limited Co., Pagbilao 2, Malaya 1,
Sta Rita Module 2, South Luzon Therma Corp., Limay 2 and Angat 2 were shut
down, the agency said.
Moreover, power plants that have
limited capacity are Malaya 2 (280 MW from 350 MW), Calaca 1 (155 MW from 200
MW) and Limay (300 MW from 540 MW).
A week earlier, NGCP also placed
Luzon grid on yellow alert due to insufficient power supply. Last July there
have also been frequent occurrences of yellow and red alert statuses.
Authorities earlier said it may
probe on the recurring yellow and red alert statuses in the Luzon grid.
The NGCP meanwhile advised consumers
to save on electricity.
