MANILA, Philippines — National Power
Corp. (Napocor) has completed various projects in Masbate to secure a more
reliable power supply for the province.
In a statement, Napocor president
and CEO Pio Benavidez said the state-run firm recently rehabilitated and energized
the 46.59-kilometer Mobo – Aroroy 69 kV transmission line.
The firm has also completed the
76-kilometer 69 kV transmission line connecting Mobo down south to the
municipality of Cataingan and the commissioning of four units of 600-kW
generating sets for Ticao Island, he said.
The Mobo – Cataingan transmission
line completes the Masbate backbone transmission, which will improve power
dispatch and enhance power stability and reliability in the area.
The project will likewise contribute
to the reduction of system loss, which means more power is available for
customers and more savings for the Masbate Electric Cooperative Inc. (Maselco).
Apart from completing the
transmission line, Napocor also installed brand-new generating sets in its
Ticao Diesel Power Plant (DPP) to support 24/7 operations and address the
growing demand in Ticao Island.
With the additional four units of
600-kilowatt (kW) gensets, Napocor’s dependable capacity in the island now reaches
2.55 megawatts (MW), which is more than sufficient in meeting the island’s peak
demand of 2.168 MW.
This further improves the
electricity supply of Ticao DPP, which has been operating for 24 hours since
June 2006.
