THE explosion of the capacitor banks inside the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) switch in Mansilingan, Bacolod City caused the 40-minute to two-hour blackout in northern and central Negros Occidental.
The explosion caused the trip-off of the 138 KV line from Kabanklan to Bacolod.
Cheryl Tortal, public relations officer of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, said the blackout hit the parts of the coverage areas of Ceneco at around 10 a.m.
However, in the cities of Talisay and Silay, the power interruption lasted for almost two hours because the transmission system cannot transmit power supply from the power generator to Ceneco's distribution system.
According to NGCP, affected areas were the whole of Ceneco, VRESCO and even Panay.
Tortal also said the North Negros Geothermal Power Plant owned by the Philippine National Oil Corporation tripped about 2 p.m., causing voltage fluctuations and power interruptions in some areas, including those covered by Ceneco. (Teresa Ellera-Dulla)
