Alsons Consolidated
Resources Inc. is bidding out contracts for 15-megawatt (MW) Siguil hydropower
plant in Mindanao.
Alsons Executive Vice
President Tirso Santillan Jr. told reporters the company is scouting for civil
works, electromechanical, and transmission contractors for the project along
the Siguil River in Maasim, Sarangani.
“They can bid
whatever they want and we need them simultaneously,” Santillan emphasized.
“It’s approximately a
30-month construction, but we still need to get their actual offers,” he added.
The Department of
Energy (DOE) has awarded Alsons the contract to build the 8.7MW Siguil 1, the
3.2MW Siguil 2, and the 4.8MW Siguil 3 hydropower projects in Maasim.
A feasibility study
showed the project could generate at least 15 to 16MW.
Santillian said that
hydropower project is the first of several renewable energy (RE) developments
for the company.
“We are doing it
slowly, we want to build one first. But there is time pressure because if you
will not do it, somebody else will. We want to delay it a little bit, but not
too much.”
