MANILA, Philippines – FDC Utilities
Inc., the power business of the Gotianun family, has been cleared to supply
power to three electric cooperatives (ECs) in Eastern Visayas to ensure secure
and reliable power supply in the region.
In separate approvals, the Energy
Regulatory Commission (ERC) provisionally approved the power supply agreements
of FDC Utilities with Leyte III Electric Cooperative Inc., Leyte IV Electric
Cooperative Inc. and Biliran Electric Cooperative Inc. .
Under the deals, FDC Utilities will
supply one megawatt to each EC for a period of one year.
The power supply will be sourced
from Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plants, where the Gotianun power firm won
the independent power producer administrator (IPPA) contract for the 40-MW
output of the facility in November 2013.
In September 2014, the 11-member
Region 8 ECs undertook a competitive bidding to power suppliers for its
short-term supply of power for the contract years 2015 to 2018.
FDC Utilities bagged the supply
contracts through a competitive bidding conducted by Region 8 ECs in November
2014 with the lowest price offer.
The ERC has yet to issue its
decision on the PSAs of FDC Utilities with the other eight members of Region 8
ECs.
The other ECs are Don Orestes
Romualdez Electric Cooperative Inc. , Leyte II Electric Cooperative Inc., Leyte
V Electric Cooperative Inc., Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative Inc., Biliran
Electric Cooperative Inc., Northern Samar Electric Cooperative Inc., Samar I
Electric Cooperative Inc. , Samar II Electric Cooperative Inc., and Eastern
