State-run National Power Corporation
(NPC) is about to spare another village in Masbate from rolling brownouts with
its deployment of generating sets.
According to the power firm, two
80-kilowatt gensets have been recently shipped to Naro island in the province
to help ease its power supply predicaments.
NPC president Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita
noted that the genset facilities were formally switched on in the island
Wednesday this week.
“This is just the beginning of the
corporation’s program for the island, as it intends to power up the entire Naro
island which has 2,500 households,” she stressed.
Sta. Rita added “with the operation
of the Naro diesel power plant, NPC hopes to help boost the island’s major
industry like fishing and processing.”
She emphasized that the Naro diesel
facility will initially supply eight hours of electricity to around 600
households.
“Commissioning of additional
generating sets and energization of neighboring barangays such as Looc, Punta
Batsan and Talisay will follow as soon as the materials and transmission line
