Power Corp.
(AboitizPower) and Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative (Zaneco) have
signed a bilateral supply contract covering an initial 5 megawatts (MW) from
the 68.8 MW Manolo Fortich run-of-river hydro power plant.
The hydro project is
being built by AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor in Bukidnon and is slated to be
completed in 2017.
Zaneco serves the cities of Dipolog and
Dapitan and the entire Zamboanga del Norte.
“Our area is short of power, and with this supply we hope to solve our problem
– this time through renewable energy,” Zaneco Board President Jesus Eduardo
Tayrus Sr. said during the signing ceremony in Dakak Beach Resort on Wednesday.
Hedcor Assistant Vice
President Darlene Arguelles noted that Hedcor would be able to “deliver as
promised.”
“We are looking
forward to serve other electric cooperative as they strive to push renewable
energy into their portfolios,” she added.
Zaneco General
Manager Adelmo Laput praised the partnership, saying the supply contract was in
the right direction of ensuring that the cooperative maximizes renewable
energy.
The cooperative
earlier signed supply contracts with AboitizPower subsidiaries Therma South and
Therma Marine to secure the baseload and peaking demand of Zamboanga del Norte.
AboitizPower is the
holding company for the Aboitiz Group’s investment in power generation,
distribution, and retail electricity.
The company also owns
distribution utilities that operate in high-growth areas in Luzon, Visayas, and
Mindanao.
